Research Methods for BSW Students
(8th edition)

Richard M. Grinnell, Jr. ~ Margaret Williams ~ Yvonne A. Unrau

WHAT’S NEW IN THIS EDITION?

We solicited extensive feedback from instructors who adopted the previous editions. From their comments we made the following changes in this edition.

  • Many instructors felt that our book would be more useful to students if it was physically larger so students could write notes in the margins. So, we expanded its size to 8½ X 11.

  • Some instructors thought it would be useful if the chapters were broken down into specific concrete sections, or parts, that followed the research process. In his spirit, we now have seven parts that contain relevant chapters that reflect the research process.

  • Some instructors thought it would be useful to have every chapter preceded by a chapter outline. Presto, their wish was our command. Also, there is a PowerPoint presentation for each chapter on this  Website. They can be used by students and instructors alike.

  • Many instructors thought a new chapter would be useful that focused on how to formulate research questions and problems in addition on how to use the literature in formulating them. A new chapter (Chapter 2) now addresses these issues.

  • Most of the instructors thought the accompanying Student Workbook (that previously sold for $10.00) should be available to students free of charge. So, it is now free and can be downloaded from this Website.

  • And, most importantly, there was unanimous agreement that the cost of the book should remain as low as possible. So, we have kept the cost to $40.00. In short, students can receive this book, a downloadable student workbook, and an accompanying Website for $40.00—an unheard of price in today’s textbook market.
